How It All Started…
“I am Mickey Burnich. I started this organization after visiting S.E. Asia over 10 years ago on business. I wanted to be able to help kids and their families break this cycle of poverty and make a real difference in the kids’ lives.
So, I went back to the USA with a desire to do something. After working my tail off for the next 10 years, I visited the Philippines in 2011 and realized I can communicate with these people in English. I visited the island of Palawan…there I got a house in the middle of the jungle. My eyes were opened to see first hand the real needs of these Pino kids (Philippino Kids).
There were kids walking the roads selling fish, fruits and vegetables. I asked, “Why aren’t you in school?” The reply “Well sir, my dad doesn’t make enough money”.
WHAT?
Public school education is not FREE…and the going rate for workers is $7.00 per day!!
I asked “Do you want to go to school?”
“YES! YES!”
So I started to tell these kids, I will help and I will get others to help. We need your HELP.
Within a few months we had 40 kids starting school in June of 2012. Pino Kids was born.”
